Nature has been very kind to us in that she has provided a great number of natural minerals, vitamins, plant extracts and foodstuffs that work in the body to nurture and promote our natural production of testosterone.
Far safer than drug based treatments, and certainly just as effective, a good natural t-booster will often use many of these in their formulas.

The revered journal ‘The Journal Of Applied Bio Medicine’ goes further and claims that Turmeric could actually be very effective against gynecomastia ( man boobs) – something that can occur when testosterone levels dip and estrogen levels rise.
There have been quite a few studies on the testosterone boosting possibilities of Turmeric, One study reported in the Journal Of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology looked at a trial carried on Wistar rats… now although this particular trial wasn’t a human one, these rats share a very identical endocrine system with us men and therefore the results are usually very similar.
The study showed that the Rats who eat Curcumin – an element found in Turmeric experienced a staggering increase in serum testosterone of 257%… aside from this, their sperm motility, quality and quantity increased dramatically….
Another study – this one actually carried out on human subjects found that 500mg of Turmeric boosted the levels of HDL Cholesterol ( the good stuff) by 29%… the good point about this ( aside from the obvious health benefits) is that HDL is a key precursor to testosterone production
A third study held in China confirmed that Turmeric is highly anti estrogenic – something that again helps to bolster testosterone levels by reducing levels of its arch enemy – estrogen
Taking Turmeric offers many health benefits ( aside from promoting testosterone production) and should definitely be included in your daily supplementation or food intake.
Cistanche : Can it Boost Testosterone?
A plant extract that I have learnt quite a bit about in recent months is taken from a parasitic desert plant called Cistanche.
It has some solid claims surrounding its reported ability to boost testosterone, DHT as well as boosting blood flow by increasing nitric oxide levels.
But whats the story here, do the reports about Cistanche really ring true? does the legend behind it stack up?.

The Legend of Cistanche
Cistanche has a reputation for effectiveness dating back to the legendary warlord Gengis Khan. He is reported to have fathered so many children (up to 2000) that it is claimed that 8% of all men in the word could be direct descendants.
His reported sexual activity is claimed to be down to the fact that he took Cistanche on a daily basis.
Now we cannot base any claims or evidence on stories such as this, but the Chinese have taken Cistanche to their hearts with it appearing in numerous male health products used on their traditional medicine.
Modern Day Studies and Clinical Evidence
Cistanche has been studied in recent years, and has been proven to have some powerful antioxidant effects.
Animal studies have also showed an ability to replenish glutathione
It has been proven to boost circulation and increase nitric oxide production, this has been shown to help treat cases of erectile dysfunction in studies Thai males.
It even caused erections in castrated laboratory rats.
Animal studies have show that it can have a positive effect on rats by effectively repairing the testicular damage caused by the cancer drug hydroxyurea.
The drug caused significant damage to testicles and reduced testosterone dramatically. Post treatment the supplementing of Cistanche appears to reverse the testicular damage and restored testosterone production.
The researchers believe that this effect is caused by the ectogenic androgen type effect of Cistanche. That regular supplementing of Cistanche led to significant improvement in testicular size boosting testicular enzymes responsible for testosterone production.
There has not been any reports of toxicity resulting from the taking of Cistanche in supplement form.
Experts suggest that doses between 200-2000mg are safe for human consumption.
My Conclusion on Cistanche – Does It Really Boost Testosterone?
Animal studies are certainly promising, but as we all know, results in animal studies are not always replicated in human trials.
It does appear to have similar properties found in other known T-boosting compounds, its a powerful antioxidant and it certainly acts a stimulant on the CYP-enzymes that are key to effective testosterone production.
That said, it certainly shows promise, and while more in depth human studies are needed to confirm its effects, the evidence that is out there does seem to indicate that it is effective at testosterone boosting.
Cistanche can be found in a few t-boosters currently, I do expect to see it start appearing in more products over the coming months.
Fadogia Agrestis: Can It Really Boost Testosterone, Performance And Sex Drive?

About Fadogia Agrestis
The plant is native to Nigeria, it is dark green leaved plant with pale yellow flowers.
The stem of the plant has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years.
It contains certain saponins and alkaloids that have shown a potential to reduce the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, reduces libido and low testosterone.

Fadogia Agrestis : The Science
Studies have been quite successful with at least two confirmed benefits:
A study carried out in Asia concluded that who laboratory Rats were given daily doses of Fadogia Agrestis, their sexual behaviour, mounting, sexual interest and dominance increased.
The same study also predicted that the reason for the increase in sexual function was that the supplant had actually triggered a spike in testosterone. This was confirmed when the blood of the animals was checked.
The tests showed a direct increase in blood serum testosterone levels.
Possible Side Effects
There is no doubt that these early studies have shown a definite improvement in testosterone production after taking Fadogia Agrestis.
However, other studies have pointed out that there could be some side effects linked to its use.
The Journal of Ethnopharmacolgy printed a study that showed that rats who were given Fadogia Agrestis demonstrated problems with their testicles
The study suggested that there was evidence that longer term use of Fadogia Agrestis could result in testicular damage and malfunction.
There have also been reports of men who have experienced growth of the testicles – this has occurred post puberty when it shouldn’t happen.
Other studies have suggested that taking large amounts of Fadogia Agrestis could possibly be toxic to the bodies organs.
It has been recorded that too much can cause “dispruption of the ordered lipid bilayer of the plasma membranes“ basically this means that it caused the breakdown of fatty acids, which resulted in oxidative damage to the cells caused by free radicals.
These have been linked to the effects of ageing and the onset of some diseases.
What Do These Studies Tell Us?
I have to point out that these studies have all been carried out on animals, there have been (as far as I can find out) NO studies to date that have involved human test subjects.
With the distinct lack of human studies, despite the encouraging testosterone boosting results, we also have to consider the possibility of adverse side effects and testicular damage that have also been recorded.
“I strongly advice you to say clear of anything that contains Fadogia Agrestis until such time as its full effects on humans have been tested and are fully understood.”

Bryonia Laciniosa Does It Boost Testosterone?
There are hundreds of herbs that are thought to have health giving properties. In the Testosterone boosting world, one herb that comes up occasionally for its reported testosterone boosting abilities is Bryonia Laciniosa.
What Is Bryonia Laciniosa
Bryonia Laciniosa is a flowering plant native to southern Asia ( India, The Phiippines and also parts of Northern Africa). Also known as Brionia, Devlips Tulip or English Mandrake.
It is a perennial plant, a climber that has red berries and bell shaped flowers. It also has seeds that are known as Shivlingi – due to the their surface markings that resemble the Hindu Deity Lord Shiva.
It has a rather foul taste, and a pungent smell. It is often found in both seed form and also in supplement capsules.
What Does Bryonia Laciniosa Do?
Bryonia Laciniosa is a popular inclusion in Ayurvetic medicine, primarily used as a libido enhancer, it is also reported to help boost fertility as well as being an effective anti oxidant and is also thought to guard against diabetes.
Bryonia Laciniosa Health Benefits
Bryonia Laciniosa contains a small number of recognised bioactive compounds, it contains a compound found in pomegranates called Punicic acid along side the dietary fibre glucomannan which is a proven appetite suppressant and is found in some of the better fat loss supplements.
The herb is thought to have fever and pain reducing properties, studies have shown that 500mg per KG bodyweight can reduce the effects of fever and also reduce pain sensations, rather like paracetamol. (read study here)
Bryonia Laciniosa is also thought to have brain boosting properties, although there are no studies that back up these claims.
One area that Bryonia Laciniosa is known to have some effect on is in the control of diabetes, cholesterol levels and blood glucose lipids. 500mg per KG of body weight was administered over a 6 week period in trials involving animals, (no human studies as of yet), and the results did yield some positive results.
It is hard to be sure until more studies have been carried out with human subjects.
Does Bryonia Laciniosa Boost Testosterone?
Bryonia Laciniosa is currently understudied, and in fact the few studies that do exist have been carried out on rats and other lab animals.
One study carried out in India saw male albino its being given varying amounts of Bryonia Laciniosa over a 4 week period, the scientists were looking at the rats sexual behaviour and wether the herb increased the rats testosterone level, testicle size and the frequency of mounting.
The results did show some improvements in most areas.
What Do These Results Mean?
Its hard to be sure with just one single random animal trial, but the signs do look mildly encouraging. The next stage would be for research scientists to carry out more in-depth human trials.
With the absence of any current human trials, we would suggest that you avoid any supplement that contains Bryonia Laciniosa until such time that its effects on humans are fully known and understood.
There is no compelling evidence that Bryonia Laciniosa is a viable testosterone boosting ingredient, especially when compared to other ingredients that have more in-depth, proven testing and guaranteed results.
We suggest that you choose a testosterone booster that uses ingredients that has this solid human testing behind them and not one that bases its claims on supposition and animal testing.

Milk: Friend Or Foe When It Comes To Testosterone?

Those on the other side of the coin with lower T levels are more susceptible to weight gain, muscle loss, tiredness, irritability and much more…
There are lots of choices we can make that affect our T levels – stress levels, how much alcohol we drink, exercise and more. But there’s one thing that’s really important: diet. That’s right: what we eat can have a surprising impact on T levels.
There are a number of foodstuffs you often see banded around in relation to testosterone levels, and one such example is milk. But what is the relationship between milk and T? Let’s take a look.
The White Stuff
Milk is a highly nutritious substance. We consumer over 750 million tonnes of it each year, it’s used in a stack of dairy products and serves lots of crucial body functions.
And because milk is made to naturally support the development of newborns, there are all kinds of nutrients packed in there. In fact, it’s pretty much as close to a superfood as you can get thanks to a careful balance of macro and micro nutrients.
The fats found in milk are mostly saturated and composed from triglycerides and the fatty acids lauric, myristic and palmitic. Unbelievably, there are actually more than 350 different fatty acids in milk in total!
Many of the dairy foodstuffs we commonly consumer are also fortified with other nutrients like vitamins A and D (the latter being a powerful T booster), and there’s also plenty of calcium, potassium, riboflavin, phosphorous and vitamin B12 found in milk, too.
Milk for Muscle Building
Milk is packed full of protein, making it a great tool to have in your muscle building arsenal. It contains both whey and casein protein:
- Whey – this is an impressive source of BCAAs and speeds up protein metabolism. This is important as BCAA are building blocks to stimulating muscle protein synthesis. Leucine is also a pivotal BCAA found in the milk, and plays a fundamental role in the primary cellular process of muscle building.
- Protein – this improves overnight recovery and protein metabolism, allowing the body

Milk for Fat Loss
There’s also a sizeable amount of proof behind the notion that dairy products can support body composition.
A McMaster University study, for example, monitored the effects of milk on three groups of young men. They were taking part in a 12-week exercise program, five days per week, and given various fluids afterwards:
- Skimmed milk
- A soy drink
- A carbohydrate drink
The results were pretty self-explanatory: the group taking skimmed milk experienced higher protein synthesis than the others, and therefore were able to build higher lean muscle levels. Oh, but that wasn’t all – they also lost double the body fat as the other groups.
Another study published in Obesity Research detailed how 34 subjects were given the same amount of calories, with one group given 500mg of dairy food and the other 1,200mg.The group consuming more dairy lost 2.16kg of fat mass, despite not being in a calorie deficit. This is why it’s believed that a high dairy diet can help with shedding fat mass – because milk stimulates protein synthesis to speed up muscle building.
Milk and Testosterone
Milk contains almost 50 hormones in total, specifically growth hormone, prolactin, glucocorticoids, androgens and the female hormone estrogen. Are alarm bells ringing at the last one?
A 2010 research paper detailed a study where volunteers were asked to drink 16oz of milk before having their blood tested every 15 minutes for a total of two hours. The results showed notable increases in female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Testosterone levels actually dropped.
A study featured in Medical Hyptheses explored how much estrogen milk really exposes us to. They found that milk was responsible for as much as 60-70% of all estrogens consumed by humans. This could be because modern methods of processing milk that allow cows to lactate during the latter half of pregnancy lead to more estrogens passing into milk than before.
Milk: Friend Or Foe?
Milk is undeniably an incredibly nutrient-rich foodstuff, as is nothing short of a superfood in terms of proteins and fats, making it a solid choice for those looking to build muscle or shed body fat.
The high amount of female sex hormone, however, may affect your testosterone levels and should acts as a warning sign for over consumption. But that doesn’t mean you should drop milk – it’s packed full of nutrients and if combined with a sensible diet and regular exercise, can be a real heath hero. Can Onions Really Boost Testosterone
Is onion really the secret to upping testosterone levels?
If you want to ensure your testosterone levels are in the best possible shape, there are numerous things to look at: diet, lifestyle, supplementation and how much you’re working out – and that’s just for starters.
But as the old saying goes: you are what you eat, and what we’re consuming day-to-day really does play a fundamental role in whether we’re hitting our T targets or not.
One foodstuff we repeatedly see linked to high testosterone is onion – but are there any proof points behind the gossip?
Trailing Testosterone Levels
It’s no secret that as we men age, our T levels drop – research has proven that once men reach the age 30, testosterone drops by around 1% each year.
This can have various implications: muscle loss, weight gain, slips in strength level and loss of libido are often cited as side effects of dwindling T levels. That’s where diet comes into the equation – eating the right stuff can have a surprisingly big effect on testosterone levels.
The Humble Onion
Allium cepa, onion bulb, is native to Asia but is today a global staple in cuisines far and wide – in fact, it’s only of the most highly consumed vegetables in the world. Onion production currently sits at a massive 44 million tonnes per year, coming second only to tomatoes.
Onions are considered a healthy choice thanks to their low calorie count and healthy counts of vitamins B and C. They’re also full of fibre, potassium, calcium and magnesium. You’re also looking at two important things here:
What’s more, onions are a powerful source of antioxidants, especially flavonoids. These are a type of polyphenol, which help boost digestive health and lower the chances of various cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative diseases. They also support weight management and give a powerful boost to overall health and wellbeing.
The quercetin compound is a powerful antioxidant with strong anti-inflammatory properties. Indeed, tea leaves are the only other foodstuff you’ll find containing as much quercetin. This compound has proven in clinical trials to lower the absorption of fatty acids, protect against free radical damage and help fight cancer.
Onion and Testosterone
But onions also perform where it really matter – boosting T levels.
Studies show that onion juice delivered to male rats for 20 days saw a 300% rise in testosterone levels, while luteinizing hormone levels also rose. This hormone plays an important role in stimulating the production of testosterone in the testes, as well as boosting sperm mobility.
Onions have also proven to increase the size of the testes – a 1967 study Plant Foods for Human Nutrition found that rats fed onion juice saw their testes increase in size by 25%, along with higher semen levels.
A similar study saw 162 rats given varying amounts of zinc and onion, both separately and together. When the two were combined, T levels saw large increases.
What are my Options?
We can’t imagine many people being happy to incorporate onion juice into their diets – so why not consider a zinc supplement? It’s clearly a proven T booster, and seriously ups its impact when combined with onions in your diet. There’s also supplementing with D- aspartic acid to raise levels of luteinising hormone.

Can Red Kwao Krua Increase Testosterone
Should You Be Taking Red Kwao Krua ( AKA Butea Superba)
We came across and interesting research document recently about a natural herb popular in Thailand that has reported androgenic properties…. called Red Kwao Krua (Official name Butea Superba) it has a reported ability to boost sex drive and erection quality….
It’s only been subjected to limited testing but we found it to be a really interesting herb,,
Heres What We Found
Butea Superba is a tuber type vegetable that looks on the outside very similar to another well known male vitality ingredient Pueraria Mirifica… It has however the opposite effect…. Traditionally used throughout Thailand as an aphrodisiac and for the enhancement of male vitality.. it appears at first glance to be a viable source of androgenic compounds
Low doses do appear to be safe for human use, but higher doses have in rodent studies, demonstrated a mutagenic effect….… traditionally the safe daily doses are between 100 and 250mg daily.. do not exceed 46mg/kg body weight as this is believed to be harmful.
Studies on Butea Superba
There have been a couple of studies that looked into its erection boosting effects… both have unfortunately not delivered proven results….
The first involved 17 test subjects who took a large dose (500mg) of Butea Superba root daily for 3 months… an equal number of men were given placebo tablets….. After one month the entire placebo group dropped out throwing the study into disarray… it did continue and at the end it was reported that 82.4% of the test group did experience improvements in sex drive and erectile function… read more here –
A second trial involved 32 test subjects.. saw them take either 100mg of Butea or 50mg Sildenafil in a blind study…The results at first were very encouraging with the group receiving the natural Butea, returning better results that the proven drug based sildenafil….If this results were to be repeated it was possible that Butea could actually prove to be more effective than Viagra
The study was repeated a short time later and regretfully the results could not be repeated… it was later confirmed that the first batch of Butea had been contaminated with a PDE5 inhibitor which caused the positive effects…
Can Butea Superba Boost Testosterone
There is limited evidence ( based purely on rodent studies) that daily supplementation with butea can have both androgenic and estrogenic effects…. The studies ultimately proved to be inconclusive with minimal benefits being displayed….
Should I Be Taking Butea Superba To Boost My Testosterone
On the face of it, there is no clinical evidence that Butea Superba will actually offer any real testosterone boosting benefits… it could however possibly offer any man with erection problems some benefits ( where the problem is not linked to testosterone) ….but we would suggest that you avoid taking any supplementation containing it until such time that more definitive clinical testing has been carried out…

Studies And Effects

There has been no human testing to date, neither has a safe dose been established.
Pine Pollen does have an allergic effect on some users, but allergies to pine are not as commonplace as other tree varieties, so the problem should not be a serious one..

There is a surprisingly large number of studies that have looked at the effects of green tea on certain hormone production, with Testosterone being one of the main subjects.. the studies have actually highlighted a definite link between regular intake of green tea and reduced testosterone production.
It has to be said that all the studies have been carried out on male rodents, but as they share an almost identical endocrine system to us guys, experts believe that the results are pretty typical and they do not expect them to vary too much if and when they actually try this out on human male test subjects
We will cite two clinical studies here in this article..
The first involved male rodents being injected with EGCG (Epipigallocatechin Gallate) the main and key catechin found in green tea…. within 8 days their testicles had actually shrunk by around 15% and their production of testosterone had actually diminished by a staggering 70%
The second and perhaps the most intensive study carried out to date was carried out in India who separated a rodents into 3 groups… each group was given a varying dose of green tea per day:

Although a snapshot of the many studies carried out, these results are all commonplace and it does raise the question as to wether you should be drinking green tea regularly if you want to maintain your testosterone levels…
While we believe that drinking the odd cup of green tea here or there will not cause any real effects, we certainly wouldn’t recommend any man drinking 3 or more cups of green tea a day.. certainly until there has actually been some human testing…

Over the test period, the researchers discovered that the levels of both luteinizing hormone and serum testosterone ( the type found in the blood) increased by as much as six fold.. the researchers also recorded increases in mounting activity, along with increased body weight, and increased testicle and prostate weight.
The study concluded that taking Bryonia laciniosa. could help increase overall androgenic activity..
There is no disputing this single studies results, that said, we need to remember that the scientists conclusion is based on just this one study, and one involving rats, not humans…if the results are to be believed, then Bryonia laciniosa could possible be a good ingredient to use in daily supplementation..
For now, however, we feel that more studies do need to be undertaken (on human test subjects too) before we start to take Bryonia laciniosa in an attempt to boost our T levels.. as and when some more are published, we will report on them here..

One study involved test rats being given doses ranging between 50 and150mg/KG body weight for 28 days….
At the end of the trial it was apparent that there rats receiving the larger doses all demonstrated increased levels of testosterone and luteinizing hormone….
They also demonstrated increased erection ability and mounting frequency – an effect that remained for up to 15 days after the trial finished.
The studies do show some interesting results.
But bear in mind that no studies have been carried out on humans and also we need to remember the fact that Akarkara is very similar to Maca Root and we KNOW that that is ineffective at testosterone boosting when taken as a supplement..
To date we have only come across one T-booster that includes Akarkara in its formula, and to be honest, until actual human testing has been carried out and its effects on humans is fully understood, personally we not would recommend taking it…

Can Chrysin Really Boost Testosterone ?
One ingredient that makes an appearance in a number of testosterone supplements is Chrysin..
But What Is Chrysin?
Chrysin is a bioflavanoid compound that is present in bee honey and propolis… it can also be found in passionflowers ( Passiflora Caerulea and Incarnata)
It can also appear on supplement labels as:

Chrysin is very hard to absorb, and dose of between 400 and 3000mg do appear to be rather ineffective.. it could be aided by taking alongside ingredients that help absorption ( bioperine possibly) but these effects are largely unknown and untested.
So far, a toxic dose of Chrysin has not been established.
Uses Of Chrysin
It is thought to have anti cancer effects, in particular in the treatment of colon cancers, but this effect still requires more testing to thoroughly understand its benefits. Its inability to be absorbed by the body still causes doubts as to its actual effectiveness
Taking Chrysin To Boost Testosterone
There has been just a few studies that looked into its various effects .. One study looked at its effects on the reproductive system, was carried out on test rats under laboratory conditions and it did demonstrate a slight increase in testosterone
Another Study that was given to healthy men involved them receiving propolis and eucalyptus honey ( containing 20mg Chrysin) failed to influence testosterone production
Overall, it has been clinically determined that in order for Chrysin to have any beneficial effect on testosterone in a man, he would have to have Chrysin injected directly into his testicles.. oral supplementation has been determined to be ineffective.

Daidzein is a soy isoflavone, found in both Soy and other plants that are able to interact with various hormones such as Estrogen and possibly Testosterone.
It is rather similar in makeup to Estrogen and can mimic the effects of the hormone to a certain degree.
Daidzein can also appear on supplement labels as:
It should not be confused with the food product Soy and also Soy Lecithin
it seems to be most effective when taken at between 10 and 20mg per KG of body weight
Uses Of Daidzein
It has been shown in tests to help reduce markers that indicate cardiovascular disease in women, it can also help to reduce fasting blood glucose ( something only proven in diabetic animals to date)
It is also thought to be an efficient anti-osteoporosis supplement, with its effects increased when taken alongside regular exercise,
Another benefit is its effect on allergens.. studies have shown an ability to reduce allergic reactions, but so far these have only been carried out under clinical conditions.
A final use of Daidzein is to treat chronic dermatitis… but again all studies to date have been carried out on animal test subjects.
Daidzein and Testosterone
It has been noted in studies involving rats that supplementation with Daidzein has an anti-androgenic effect… this means that it suppresses certain hormones and is the type of product that is given to sex offenders to suppress their sexual urges.
It does not boost Testosterone.. it potentially has the opposite effect, so we simply cannot understand why any manufacturer would put it in a testosterone boosting product.
Schizandra Chinensis As A Testosterone Booster
Found in a few testosterone boosting supplements, Schizandra Chinensis has been primarily used as a performance enhancer and as an adaptogen.

There are two published studies into the effects of Schizandra Chinensis.. one looked at the effect it had on Nitric oxide production and the other on its effects on cortisol
The Nitric oxide study recorded a slight increase in serum nitric oxide..
The study involving 19 young athletes ( aged between 15 and 19) and 71 adult (18-29) athletes saw them take tablets containing 91.1 mg of Schizandra Chinensis 4 times a day
it was shown to produce an increase in circulating Nitric Oxide in saliva samples
Cortisol was increased in the younger athletes and decreased in the adult athletes.. the younger athletes did not experience such a spike in cortisol after exercise.

There has been no recorded trials or any evidence of any testosterone boosting effects gained by taking Schizandra Chinensis in supplement form..

Can Selenium Boost Testosterone?
A Common Ingredient Found In Numerous Testosterone Boosters, But What Affect Does Selenium Actually Have.??
Selenium is quite a common ingredient commonly found in health supplements… it is starting to appear in testosterone boosters more frequently, but is its inclusion worthwhile??
What Is Selenium
Selenium is an essential mineral that is highly rated for its anti-oxidant properties, it is recognised for its ability to boost optimal health… It has been associated for its abilities to prevent certain cancers, but at the same time, when taken for extended periods of time, particularly at high doses it has been thought to actually increase some cancers in particular cancer of the prostate.
Selenium can take the form of various organic and non organic compounds… it is thought that doses up to 200ug can help reduce cancers, but doses of 1500ug and above have been found to increase certain cancer risks.
Selenium has shown pro diabetic properties and can aid glucose metabolism, but can have the opposite effect when taken over time..
A number of clinical studies have shone that selenium deficiency has been linked to serious diseases such as cancers, diabetes , HIV and tuberculosis,.. trials have demonstrated that supplementation with selenium can reduce cancers.. but these trials have only been carried out using Rats and Mice… Human trials have yet failed to show any cancer reducing properties.
Since 1996 there have been at least 7 studies that examined the possibility of selenium as an effective testosterone boosting compound
5 of these studies were carried out on human test subjects.
Of these trials, only 1 presented any increase in testosterone ( and this was very slight) the trial, carried out in Iran, followed 468 infertile men… they were given 200mg of selenium daily for 26 weeks which resulted in slight increases in 16% of the men tested.
Despite numerous clinical trials, the scientific evidence tells us that overall, Selenium is virtually 100% ineffective when taken to try and boost testosterone and overall its use offers more health risks than benefits when taken for any extended period of time.
Does Diindolymethane Have Any T Boosting Properties?
Diindolymethane is an ingredient that can be found in some natural testosterone boosting supplements, but what is it, and what does/can it do??
Commonly known as – DIM or 3,3”-dinodolymethane.
It is a natural molecule, similar to methane, and it is commonly found in plants belong to the Brassica group, which includes Broccoli, Kale and Cauliflower.
Looking at it in-depth, it’s uses are actually rather limited, it has been suggested that it has anti cancer effects.
Studies have suggested that it can be a strong human androgen antagonist in human prostate cancer cells.

But many more studies are required before we know the full effects of this natural compound.
New Report Tells Us That Tribulus Could Have Some Low Testosterone Benefits
SBwire reports today of a new study recently published that having reduced testosterone levels can, in some men cause clinical depression.
The research study ‘The effects of Tribulus Terrestris Saponins On The `behaviour Of Elderly Men’ showed that approx 30% of men over 50 had reduced testosterone levels, of these, many were showing the signs of discontentment and depression.
Reduced testosterone levels can cause mood disorders, in particular the reduction of seratonin ( aka the feel good hormone) which in turn can reflect in our moods, sleep quality and of course generate cases of depression.
Doctors have recognised that supplements containing tribulus terrestris can have a positive effect on seratonin levels, helping to lift the mood and therefore alleviate symptoms of depression.
The doctor behind the study – a Dr Zang D, specialist in traditional Chinese medicine told us
“Low testosterone levels chiefly caused clinical depression problems in 3 out of 10 elderly men. Testosterone is essential in the prevention of complications such as mood swings, irritability, and decreased libido for sex. However, a dose of Tribulus Terrestris supplement in the span of six weeks yielded positive results on the situation of the elderly. Tribulus Terrestris significantly increased the testosterone levels on the respondents over the span of the clinical trial.”
Tribulus Terrestris is a popular ingredient found in many testosterone boosting supplements..
The truth is that overall, it in many clinical trials, it has actually failed to provide any recognised testosterone boosting properties,
That said, it can have a positive effect on libido and if the studies carried out by Dr Zang are found to be reliable, it could also help boost mood and help men suffering with depression.
On these points, it does seem that there could be a place for Tribulus Terrestris in testosterone boosters, just not in the way that many manufacturers claim.

Ornithine offers no proven results regarding its testosterone boosting effects, its side effects namely diarrhoea and possible intestinal issues, largely outweigh any possible benefits..

Its side effects have been compared to those often caused by the anabolic steroids commonly used by bodybuilders, and if taken, should always be cycled in a similar way to these potentially risky treatments.
There is no doubt that tests have indicated that taking Prolensis could have a positive effect on testosterone production….
It is hard however to ignore the reported risks to the liver etc and would suggest that caution is exercised when using any product that contains either Prolensis or Bulbine Natalensis..
